It's good that your open and honest about your "dirty eating secrets" -- it will probably help you from going back to that bad habit.
I recommend that you read up if you haven't yet on the relationship between sugar and insulin -- hormones are very powerful chemical messengers, and they will "command" your brain if you don't intervene.
If you strive to keep your insulin low for long enough, then when you eat high-sugar type foods they will literally make you feel like you're on a drug -- then you will understand the root of this addiction!
The only time I eat sugary things is during and immediately after exercise to help me keep my intensity up during endurance training -- otherwise I have trained myself to always eat low carb foods only. It is not a "panacea" by any means -- you can still overeat -- but it is a lot harder to over eat meat and vegetables than snack food cakes!
Don't let the scale be your guide! As a personal trainer I see many clients come in and complain about their weight on the scale - what many of us don't realize is that weight loss and muscle loss are very different in how they appear on the scale. They both show as a lower number, but one reduces your metabolism and kills your ability to workout and burn energy during your exercises.
If you are doing Turbulence Training then you are likely gaining muscle weight - so you should expect your weight to take an unstable path - the most important factor is how your pants feel - does it really matter if the scale stays the same as long as your pants feel looser?

Ok so today is Monday 20th of October and the start of a 'potensially' successful week!
Write down some workout goals and diet goals for this week and then tell someone about them that can help you be accountable to them.
This is what I have tried in the past when I came off a bad previous week with bad results.
I know you can do it Steve, keep going!
Take care,
Andrew
In the context of this post, just winning the mental battle and actually getting to the gym is the most important achievement IMHO.
I agree that doing the workout with enough intensity and with proper form is also important and should not be minimized.
...I disagree. making it to the gym is not the most important piece.
actually doing the working properly is the most important piece.
I dont care whether you work our at home, in the gym or in your bathroom, you must have a good workout.
I dont think it is repsonsable telling your readers all you have to do is make it to the gym.
I can handle the truth, that's why I'm brave enough to put my experiences out there, with a name and a way to contact me, not hide behind some anonymous posts.
I said I will not post comments that do not do anything to further a discussion. Name calling and belittling a person does not accomplish this. I've let you have your say but now you're just being belligerent and that has no place on this blog.
wow. Fatdad told me he wont post my comments anymore.
no surprise here. first, he gains back 20 lbs of fat, and blames it on an "addiction," now he wont post all material for his readers.
obviously, you cannot handle the truth.
truth hurts. deal with it.
You're welcome!
Btw, I'm disgusted at some of the responses from select readers. Having done the weight loss thing numerous times, I know how easy it is to slip back into bad habits. I applaud you for getting back to it, and for admitting that you are human and make mistakes. Apparently those criticizing you are damn near perfect and therefore don't belong on your site to begin with. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it. I just have to find a happy medium between complete abstinence and gluttony.
Glad to hear you're back on track too, that's fantastic!
Alright, I've been decent about letting these comments get published because I can man up and admit I gave into my weaknesses. I knew that I'd open myself up to some ridicule (which I deserve, to a point) but if all your going to do is come on here criticize and make fun of me and what I'm trying to do then I'll stop publishing your comments. I believe in an open dialog, but when that dialog no longer serves the purpose of enriching the community I have no problems with stopping it.
I'm sorry I let you down just like I'm sorry I let myself down. Every day I didn't workout and every day I ate crap I felt responsible to the folks who read NMFD. That sense of responsibility, to myself and the NMFD community is one of the things that brought me back. If it weren't for this community, I may well have just kept on going down the path I was following.
So please, either find it somewhere in you to forgive me and let's move on or just stop posting comments that serve no purpose other than to make you feel better than me.
the only thing you have in common with michael phelps is his diet.
I feel your pain. It's really hard to change habits that have been a part of your life for so long. I commend you on openly admitting your addiction, and I do hope that you will beat it. Congrats on beginning TT again!! I'm finally over my cold and back on track myself.
...deal with the facts.
Why should anyone listen/read your blog?
used to read your blog for motivation myself.
you gave up on yourself, your readers, and everyone else who came here for inspiration.
you were supposed to provide motivation, not seek it from your readers.
you decided to put yourself out there for others to follow. now, you must deal with the consequences of putting yourself out there and failing your readers.
this is no different than Mens Health putting a deep fried oreo cookie recipie in one of their issues.
This has never been a "blog on weight loss", it has been a journal of my experiences as I work towards becoming a fit dad. Those experiences include the bad with the good.
To answer your questions "How does a guys [sic] who gained back every single pund [sic] he lost have a blog on weight loss?" it's simple.
95% of all the folks who lose weight gain it back (according to . I would guess that a majority of those folks think it's a losing battle and give up. I'm not giving up and I'm hoping that anyone who's in the same boat as me reads this and learns something that can help them or they realize they're not the only ones having problems or they get motivated to get back on the proverbial horse.
In a perfect world, I would have not put 20 of the 30 pounds I lost back on. But guess what, this isn't a perfect world, and I'm by no means a perfect person so I move on and use this experience as a lesson and I use the name calling from an anonymous poster as motivation to push harder so thank you.
chubby chubby 2x4, cant fit through the bathroom door.
how does a guys who gained back every single pund he lost have a blog on weight loss?
to me, you lose credibility.
lose some weight, than start it back up again........why would anyone listen to what you have to say? YOU FAILED.
sorry, credibility lost in my eyes.
sad, really. used to be a fan.
Thanks Sean,
No, it really isn't. It was only a few of those battles that I let my mind win that got me back to where I am right now.
Glad you like the blog, yummyfitness.com is really nice too!
Steve
lol, he's back for only a short time so I'm not going to honor him with his own domain, maybe a post, but not a domain.
...you're not feeling it.
you've gained 20 lbs of fat in very little time.
I think you should change your blog to, "Fatdadisback.com" than, when you lose the weight, again, change it back to "nomorefatdad.com"
Steve, it's not easy sometimes to push through the "battle" that takes place in your head and win the "war" to get into the gym.
But you did it, and you're just keeping the momentum going.
Great job!
Nice blog too!

YummyFitness.com
did you gain 20 lbs?
wow...what happened?
Thanks for the BZs (bravo zulus or "well done" in Navy talk) everyone, I really appreciate it. I've had my first taste of endurance sports competition and I like it. Next for me is a tri sprint in July!
Awesome job Steve. What a difference from 5 months ago. Keep at it and you'll wreck it next year.
way to go steve-o....
great job.
Dude, that is awesome! I'm eons away from that level of fitness, but am very inspired by your effort.
Way to go, Steve. With a little rest I am sure you will begin your training for next year.
Keep your times and reps posted.
